I Must Ask . . . Where Would You Like to Travel?

Most travel is best of all in the anticipation or the remembering; the reality has more to do with losing your luggage. –Regina Nadelson

So, last week, we talked desserts. And I agree with every single one of you on the merits of your favorite dessert. I loved the results; it was interesting to see how desserts stacked up to each other. We have a family get-together soon and I'm bringing the dessert {for 45}. I've decided to make apple cobbler and serve it with vanilla ice cream. Using the poll results as an indicator, 15.3 people will like my dessert, which means that I get to bring lots of it home .

So, while we're talking indulgences, visiting foreign climes seems like an interesting topic. I'm not really well traveled. I've been to most of my neighboring states; California, Nevada, Arizona, Idaho, Wyoming and Colorado. I've also been to Tijuana, Mexico and Orlando, Florida {not in the same trip, obviously} and I lived in two different states in north-eastern Brasil during a 16-month period. Oh, and I had a 12-hour layover in São Paulo, which is in the south of Brasil, on my way back home. I've only seen a few places, but I've seen enough to know that this is a beautiful planet and I want to see more of it. I have several landmarks on my bucket list of places to go; the Statue of Liberty, Mt. Rushmore, the Eiffel Tower, the Panama Canal and the Great Wall of China. I would love to spend a serious amount of time in Great Britian and France, Italy, Germany and Australia are huge on my list of places to see. And I'd really like to go back to Brasil. I would, of course, visit Fortaleza, the city I spent most of my time in while living there. But I'd also like to visit the capitol, Brasilia, and then see Rio, more of São Paulo and Falls do Iguaçu in Paraná. There are several historical sites here in the US that I'd like to visit and I'd just plain like to see more of my own country, historical or not. The Hershey Spa in Hershey, PA is at the top of that list.

How about you? I must ask . . . where would you like to travel? Tell me where you'd like to go and I'll pick a few favorites to share next week! Thanks for playing along!

  2. I voted for quite a few, including Canada, Spain, Italy, France, and Poland (home of some of my ancestors before it was Poland). I'd like to visit Ireland too. In the U.S., I have never seen Mt. Rushmore or Yellowstone, so I think that trip should be planned. And we have such nice neighbors to the north in Canada, I think that should be somewhere on my itinerary for future travel. It's the getting there part I don't like so much, though. Too bad we can't just beam ourselves to another spot on the globe!

  3. I love these posts and I always want to comment but rarely do. This one I couldn't pass up! Since my mom is from Denmark, she took us kids back several times growing up. I have so many amazing memories from those trips. Feeding the ducks at the parks, bike rides canoe trips and kite flying, walking to the candy store with my grandpa, the freezing cold beach, warm pastries from the local bakery... But its been 16 years since I was last there. I ache to go back. I so look forward to the day I can take my husband and my kids with me and share with them everything I love about Denmark.

  4. Fabric district in Tokyo! My friend just went and brought me back the most amazing stack of treasures for $20! Also, I want to go back to Russia... and to The Netherlands to visit my friends.

  5. Aside from the obvious answer of "everywhere" I think my first stop would be the US so I could visit people Ive never met but feel like I know through Blogland.

Finland is also high on my list as well as the UK. I wish I was independently wealthy so I could just wander round the world seeing it all!

  6. I have always thought Travel was over rated, and have not been to many places out side of neighboring states. I was dragged on a Cruise several years ago. It however started out as a disaster, and pretty much turned out the same on the return trip. We did make it home but without some luggage, and almost with out a few of our party.

I have past up several Business trips only because Computers allow me to remotely manage a large network, And I personally can not justify the travel cost. that being said.
A year ago, I went to Germany for business. Most of the time was spent in meetings discussing computer security, except for short Trips into town for dinner. It is pretty much like here. Mostly, because during World War II, the place was bombed to dust in most big cities, and people are mostly the same everywhere. Human.

But in the city of Hamburg are 2 landmarks I will not forget. The first is a Church you can go up to the Bell tower and look out over the city at night and see the Ships in the harbor heading up the river and out to sea. The City all lit up, with the amusement park lights all a glow in the distance was very cool.
The second Landmark is another Church that stands a few blocks away. A bombed out Church that was not restored and stands as a Stark reminder, to never let desire to take what others have, and that Power, Greed and the power of greed can blind an entire nation to the evil of what its leaders want and the horror they can bring up on a nation.

My host for the week made a long distance trip for a week, well worth the two 14 hour flights to and from. But in the end, I was so glad to be home.
Would I go back, for business, yes. For personal enjoyment, no. There are too many places with in driving distance of my own back yard I have never seen.

  7. What a great question. I've travelled so much in the last year that it was hard to say. My main fantasy is to travel without kids. Carrying extra luggage, a stroller and having kids fight and melt down during customs inspections are not fun. With or without kids though, I love travel and would have to pick France, Italy or Scandinavia. I love Europe, but haven't been to those countries.

I have to point out that you did not include South Korea in your list. For quilters, it has one of the largest fabric markets in the world. I've heard you can get brands like Moda for $2/yd.

  9. I really like the post by Anonymous. I agree that I'm not really big on travel, ESPECIALLY if I have to be on the tourism planning committee. But if someone goes along with me and leads me around by the hand (and pays my way, ha ha), I would love to see

    Australia
    New Zealand
    Jamaica
    Hawaii
    England

...and I would love to revisit Spain.
