I was so relieved after I finished my Graduation block for the Eclipse Charity Quilt the other night that I decided I needed to do a little 'traditional piecing' before I went to bed. So, I pulled out my pinks and browns and put together the p.s. i quilt: pinwheel sampler quilt along: block six.
Here is my first color combination:
And the second combination:
For this set of blocks, rather than make HST's, I used this No Waste Method for Flying Geese.
I also played around with a couple of blocks that I might use instead of the Quilt Along block two. I thought the scale of 6" pinwheels in a 12" block might work better with the other blocks, rather than one big 12" pinwheel. Here's what I came up with, showing the Quilt Along version and then my altered idea. Color combination 1:
And color combination 2:
I'm not sure I'm completely satisfied with my altered version of the block, but I do like it better than the large, single pinwheel. I may take mine apart and cut them down to 5½" (finished) and add in a 1" sashing to break them up a bit. I'll have to see what the 'muses' say when I pull them out again to work on them. Oh, and I'd love opinions too. That always helps me to figure out what I really want.
Block seven is up today (hooray!). I'm off to do a bit of laundry and sewing.
Great blocks Elizabeth.
ReplyDeletelove the altered ones. sadly i didn't get to block 7 this weekend
ReplyDeleteI just want to say I love your color choices. I would tend to say that the darker pink and darker brown ones are my favorite, but they look even better when combined with the lighter pink and brown. I actually like the larger pinwheels just as much or better than the smaller ones, but are you thinking of using just one or the other, or having both designs together in the same quilt? I just love pink and brown, it's going to be a great quilt.
