Favourite Things Friday: Wit and Cleverness, i.e., Good Humor

After God created the world, He made man and woman. Then, to keep the whole thing from collapsing, He invented humor. –Bill Kelly, "Mordillo"

I'm not entirely sure that this post won't fall flat on its face. I don't know if I can convey this in a way that anybody but me will get. My post is clumsy and awkward, and not at all like the favourite thing I want to share, but here goes anyway . I like good humor. I love a good pun, an inside joke, a reference to pop culture, or witty, clever banter. I like well thought-out comedy. I thought I'd share a bit of what tickles my funny bone.

I'll start off with Fred & George Wesley. You never know what you'll get with those two. For this one, I'll point you to a collection of clips {the embedding feature was disabled} over at YouTube.

The TV show Psych is always good for a laugh. The dialog is pretty funny and they do tons of inside jokes and references to pop culture. This is one of my favorite funny references {feel free to stop the video after Gus, a.k.a. Jazz Hands, says his line, at about :35}

For witty banter, nothing can compete with Gilmore Girls. The entire cast is amazing. It is hard to convey the funniness of this show out of context; it is kind of one you have to see. All the same, I hope you'll enjoy this collection of funny moments. My favorite is 'the yellow stick road.'

It is a shame that Dharma & Greg was cancelled, because it just so much fun. I love to catch it on re-runs. Don't tell anyone :paranoid:, but I kind of have a girl crush on Dharma.

I'm with you on this one, for sure! That's why I love Parks & Recreation. :) You've picked out some good examples here.

We call one of our favorite diner-type restaurants "Sunshine Spacetweezers." It's really "Sunview," but that episode where Dharma was talking about baby names cracked us up.

Never seen Psych, but you had me a 'jazz hands'.
LOVE Gilmore Girls
Totally miss Dharma and Greg! I am always quoting things from that show and my hubby doesn't get it.

If it makes you feel better, it seems we have a similar sense of humor, that is NOT a good thing...for you. ;)

I loved Dharma and Greg ... It was such a cute and funny show.

Im re-reading Harry Potter and George and Fred have all the best lines.

I like a show that can make me laugh and you're right - there's a definite difference between wit and cleverness and other types of humour.

Great post Elizabeth. Thanks for linking it up to FTF !

What a great idea for a post. I liked your clips, though I know I would have enjoyed them more if I had known the characters better. On the first one, I actually thought the bottled water part was the funniest part, seeing as how where I live anything environmental is a SERIOUS subject--I love that little clicking sound the water bottles make, too! (Don't tell my Eugene friends, ha ha!)

And that scripture that Janice quoted--I love it. It's the one I have had written on the mirror in my room for over a year : ). I love those happy thoughts!

Thanks for reminding me of how much I love silly happy witty humor, too. It brightened my day!

this is the second time in a day that I've heard of "Pysch" - I'll have to check it out!

Sadly, the only comedy we watch is on the Disney Channel (which is actually kind of funny). I love laughing, especially the kind where you're actually crying!

thanks so much for sharing!

I have always thought that Dharma and Lorelei Gilmore are fabulous characters. Seeing them side-by-side shows me that I may have been wrong, but they always reminded me of each other.
My friend has the complete collection of the Girls, and I'm going to have to start borrowing them now! (I missed the last 2)
Another fav. of mine--Mad About You. It was on at 11:00 at night when I was in high school and I used to try and watch it if I could. Love that!

I also love that I get to see more of Lauren Graham and her wit on Parenthood, and Dharma's mother on Castle. Great shows.
