A Vintage-y Giveaway

I've been hinting at a giveaway for a while now. And this post is about a giveaway, just not the giveaway. So, keep watching for the 'bribe more people into reading my blog' giveaway. I'm getting closer to being ready for it. The giveaway I have today is a surprise giveaway, in that it is a surprise to me to have something to give away. As I mentioned yesterday, I'm not a big fan of vintage for myself. But I've got a lovely set of new old china from my grandparents and while I was at their house, I picked up a few other heirloom-y items that I knew I would love and use. I also picked up a little something that I just couldn't leave behind, but know I'll never use. And so I want to offer it to someone who will use it.

Behold, a vintage set of relish plates.

I call them vintage because I know absolutely nothing about them, except that they are milk glass and I don't want them to end up at the D.I. They are in excellent condition and come from such special people that it has become my mission to find them a good home. I would like them to go where someone actually makes deviled eggs when company comes for dinner and wants a pretty plate to put them on and will use the matching plate to fill with carrot and celery sticks and whole black olives.

If you are a collector of vintage and would love and use these plates, leave me a note in the comments and tell me why I should give them to you. I'll leave the comments open until next Saturday (May 15th) around noonish (MST) and then I'll read through the comments and decide who makes the best case for taking care of these pretty plates that belonged to my Grandmother. If you, personally are not interested, but know someone who is, send them by to leave a comment. You do not have to become a follower of my blog to qualify for entry, as I'm not a big vintage collector. I will be showing you a few more things I got from my grandparents, but other than that, I'm mostly about Twilight and quilting and gardening and family. As I mentioned, my goal is to find a good home for these plates.

Summing up the giveaway:
* Each person is allowed only one entry.
* You do not have to follow my blog to qualify for the giveaway.
* Leave a comment telling me why you want these plates to enter. I will be choosing a winner based on the reasons why he/she wants the prize, so you gotta want these plates for your own use and enjoyment. I'm not offering them up so that you can try and make a buck off them later.
* Comments will close on May 15th around noon (MST). The winner will be notified by e-mail and I'll post the winner and comment here within 24 hours.
* Please leave your contact information. If your profile does not include your e-mail address (which you can change in your profile settings), then please leave it in your comment in the following format: address (at) domain name (dot) com. If I can't contact you, you can't win.

Good luck! I'm looking forward to reading your comments and choosing a winner.

I love your grandmothers relish plates! I am a collector of white plates...and many other things. I use that which I collect and I appreciate things for the value of the past. I love nothing more than to use my collectibles for a brunch, lunch or special dinner. I mix and match and usually tell everyone a story or two about my things even if they don't ask! :)I treasure the past and feel a strong connection to it.Family members pass things along to me for this reason. Also, I take good care of my things and give them a good home and place of honor. I enjoy using that which has set the table for family and celebrations in the past. It seems to tie physically the past to the present for me. I'm the kind of person who buys other peoples vintage photos because I can't stand that a cute picture has been lost! Not everything in my home is old, but I mix the two together for an old fashioned feeling. I would love to be considered for your giveaway. And if there are many who apply and I'm not the one chosen I still consider it a pleasure to be able to see your grandmothers treasures and to even write something here.

I believe that your plates would feel very at home in my home. I do not have a whole lot of special things for my kitchen, so the few special things that I do have are extra special for me. I still mourn the loss of a very pretty crystal candy dish that my grandmother gave to me before she passed away. I love the look of your grandmother's relish plates, and would use then with joy! I love deviled eggs, so I would definitely display them proudly on the egg plate, and VEGETABLES are my favorite, so that's what I always serve when such serving is needed. I would be happy to take good care of these plates for you and use them with love, as I would surely love remembering you whenever I use them.

We have deviled eggs usually at every holiday. My son loves to make them. I do not own a dish for deviled eggs so this would be a treasure to have as well as the one for veggies. They are both very pretty. I love old things that have a history rather it is tea cups, dishes, linens, etc. I do not have many old pieces but love to look at them. If you choose us we will put your granmother's dishes to good use at every holiday and family gathering. They will be well loved and also used. These dishes seem to match the glasses my parents got as a wedding gift many years a go. We would feel honored to be choosen to take care of these dishes.

I LOVE milk glass as well as all things 'vintage' ;). I have a collection of plates, serving dishes and utensils that I have collected over the years (mostly from thrift stores) that I use when I throw a dinner party or catter and event. In fact I just dusted them off for a wedding a couple of months back. If you look really close in the backgroud of the picture I sent you of me wearing your appron you can see the spread I set up for that one. I love the eclectic look of mis-matched china on a long table full of goodies. These would be a great addition to my collection...and would get some great use! Plus I made some pretty killer deviled eggs ;)

Elizabeth, THose are beautiful! We have deviled eggs and veggies all the time, but don't include me in the giveaway because I have multiple vintage deviled egg dishes including one that is very similar to this.
I just wanted to tell you how pretty they are - and to the winner, they look so pretty on the table, too!!!

I have a similar dish that I got from an op shop here but it's not divided. I use it with my white and gold "best" dinner set.

I just wanted to tell you how pretty those dishes are. Don't enter me in the draw because I suspect they wouldn't survive the journey half way around the world and it would be a tragedy if they arrived in multiple pieces.

Good Luck to all those who enter!
